Pakistan has always been weak in industry since her independence in 1947. Bangladesh got freedom in 1971 but all Pakistani businessmen are looking forward to her. The question arises here that these Pakistani labors work in foreign countries; are they not fit to work in here- Pakistan. They are aspiring to take whole business unit to Bangladesh and then produce their by products. The economic and political leadership is totally collapsed. Leadership is not attending this countrywide issue seriously. They do not know if businessman has serious tendency to start business, no foreign investment would be encouraged to start any project here. Government policies are very slow in this prospect. The trend of nepotism is at large in this newly-born government. People are being recruited in the name of merit but there is only one rule ‘Might is Right.’ It is already has been made a poor country by extortion of sources, what might be its future is looking in the mirror clearly. Gigantic claims of every elected government warm people blood, and then there is a long pause saying ‘we are doing every possible effort to give relief to public.’ Then after that what comes there is nothing being done and public get disturbed. Public begins strikes, raises slogans against standing government, faces police and jail shut-up, beaten with jail whips and result comes that he is unemployed and for nothing in the end. How long will it work seems having no answer because everyone is part of it, isn’t it?
Industry is a place where a poor man or needy produces or manufactures things, brings it to market and makes money for necessities fulfillment. This is a place where many families are brought up and get work to prove faculties they have attained after a long hard work. But rather it is very regrettable thing that country like Pakistan could not develop her industry inn all over the world. In textile industry, some items of Pakistan are very appreciative like raw-cotton. Why is it not that in Pakistan no industry set up successful? People are educated now they are trained, TEVTA is an authority that educates and trains students on international level up to standards. They are well-equipped with practical knowledge so that in field they may compete with upcoming challenges. But again it is a hot potato issue why Pakistan is behind in industry, she has no recognition in foreign market.
Quality is a basic element of any production department in industry. The more faults you remove, the more quality you get. When a person finds this secret of producing quality he knows the real length and width of product. A student or a qualified man acknowledging quality has not to rotate on roads for a long stroll but adjusted on some good designation. Another problem in Pakistani education set-up is old and out-dated course outlines. He is taught what is not applied on anyone, anywhere and anytime. New and updated study refreshes mind and moreover opens new horizons. Practical and lab work is not appreciated in under developing countries like Pakistan. If during their study time the students do not identify the model then after in field how can they solve and decide about stuff? it is notable that a trainer should be taught every inch. Every technology demands clearance and vigor to get a position.
Only if we need writers, diplomats, economists, political experts, poets, anchors, editors and so on. Then who will grant us tooth brush, comb, cup, tin and many useable things up to all luxuries included. It is very essential that we have to keep pace with the world on a normal level. It is because in all over the world it happens that every mind has different and separate thinking mode. Thus, it is wise to take full advantage of other developing people ideas and planning. If you can not design , seek it from whom you know the best.
But still there are also some reasons behind bad set-up of industrialization in Pakistan.
1. Load-shedding is proving a curse. Industry either small or large scale production is not in proper working position. Occasional working gives low production with which only cost and expenditures meet hardly. All concerned men of unit have to keep waiting for fixed hours.
2. The point of insecurity is another threat; we can not guarantee any one’s safety of life. If you are going on the road any suicidal bomber can explode near you and you will be no more. No foreign investor is ready to work on any project in Pakistan. People are made hostages and are killed sometime. Kidnapping has also been observed in this regard. Insecurity issue must be considered seriously.
3. Overdo of taxes is a reason that people who invest a large amount of money in business fear that hey will be levied with taxes. Thus, most of people avoid business running because they think that it is better to keep money in some bank deposit and withdraw fixed amount.
4. Education of rulers and capitalists is very essential for the welfare of state. If the capitalist is not known to all moral values he will find it difficult to invest his money in proper markets. It is necessary to know about the culture and economic condition of world. It enables a man too produce what is needed at most.
5. Non-developed schemes are not good sign of good trade and commerce in any country. Even the natives do not like to invest in their own country if they do not have enough roads, bridges and channels. For the success of industries there should be a network of roads so that heavy machinery can be introduced into the country. Roads are ways and routes to take any man to progress, by these routes we meet and land into other far-off places. Encouragement must focus on reconstruction.
6. Those who have some relations in the industry are highly-paid but an ordinarily appointed is low-paid or by routine. If some body knows the contact he loses his heart because he is deploying the same amount of work as other is performing. In some specific cases the nepotisms are not making justice with their duties but pushing their time. In industry it happens that every unit is proper at its place, it is more needed sometimes that all liabilities would be done in a fixed time within the scheduled period.
7. Pakistani foreign policy is not so strong to mitigate the differences of trade but day by day they are emerging into horrible shape. People of Indian trade on some ground are not willing to deal with Pakistani industrialists. The reason is that some militant parties are against bi lateral trade. Pakistani by-products are sent to Afghanistan and manifold exchange comes back in the treasury. But no exchange of policy or opinion is on the scene as further guidance can be sought as from India is expected.
8. Adulteration is at high peak. People f industry make back-door products which have the like label with a little difference, e.g. an ad comes on television about ‘ Mayfair’ but after some days we find another toffee name with a new name ’Myfair’. These types of things are very substandard and base in material and shape. If all industrialists adopt solo policy not to make such things then Pakistan may lead in the front. It befalls in here because people mostly live in villages and far-off places, they are forced to buy these fake things, what they may do – a protest only then nothing happens in the response. Industrialists who live in posh areas can not know the demand of clients. They only know their new schemes and planning how to do adulteration.
9. Health, safety and good environment are three things –necessary for any worker in industry. If you can not provide them fresh and airy atmosphere, well- lighted rooms, clean and crystal floors, safe-guards and other equipments. It becomes difficult for them to response in positive attitude. Good management has a habit to take care of worker’s need. Healthy people work better and great amount of production is expected on high levels. If weak and ill people work they are a burden on society and work instead of work, they become surplus.
10. Overwork in industry makes anyone, either he is a wrestler or heavy-weight, fatigued or bored, these long and tiresome working hours are too much for anyone. Energy level has limit with everyone. It is very hard to predict that he may work 8 hours or 12 hours, it also depends on the recompense he /she gets. It is considered as over-time which is handsomely paid back. But it is totally ignored to someone and favored to some party. Then, it is very pinching situation.
Pakistani industry is not in well-poised position because like society no justice is done to the workers. May God prosper Pakistan one day we aspire to see.
